The original intent for this blog was to document all the happening of my family... the good, the bad, and the ugly. I try not to pretend like my life is one big happy adventure, although I wish it were, so here is some ugly for ya....this past week, my husband has been driving me crazy! Sometimes I wish I could just crawl into his head and examine what goes on in there because I just do not understand him most of the time. Anyway to add to the flame we received some pretty bad news on Friday, which is just too complicated to discuss here, but does not have to do with the health of any of my family (I am not trying to scare anyone). Nick and I felt the need to re-connect as a family so we left computers and cell phones at home and took off for a two day beach tour. We left Saturday and headed down to Cannon Beach and traveled down the Oregon Coast, stopping in Rockaway to spend the night. We woke up Sunday and headed south again, ending up in Oceanview, where we spent the afternoon. It was just what the doctor ordered and it was so nice to spend the weekend together. By the end of the trip the boys had actually stopped fighting for five minutes and got to enjoy each other for once, which made us beyond happy! Here are some pictures of our weekend escape:
First stop...Fred Meyer off Cornelius Pass Rd....forgot to let Barkley go pee before we left..opps!
Made it to Cannon Beach without stopping, but then got behind these two horses. It was not too bad though because Grant loved it!
Stopped at the Driftwood Inn for lunch where we had Jaxson's favorite meal...clams!!
We had to leave Cannon Beach pretty quickly because it was just too much for Grant. He likes to walk Barkley and there were just too many people and too many dogs! He also does not understand, or chooses not to understand the danger of cars. He just runs full speed across streets, so it made me too nervous! In another post you will hear about how I may have cured this though!
Next stop was Rockaway, where we stayed at a really crappy hotel. It was all part of the experience I guess, but lets just say I did not take any pictures of our room :-)
Our new little friend...the squirrel! He was a persistent little fella, but after we shared some sun flower seeds he went away!
After we were there for a little bit, the sun came out and it was gorgeous! We decided that we should just stay and have dinner on the beach. Nick ran up to the store and got stuff for hot dogs and s'mores!
Little Barkley loved just hanging out and basking in the sun! He got up to bark at anyone who came by, but just loved to be snuggled up. It was funny because every time someone would ask what his name was, Grant would say, "Bar Bar Dente". The kids call him Bar Bar, and it was just too cute!

The next day we woke up bright and early, as we usually do, and headed south on 101 for some more adventure. We stopped at Rockaway Beach about five minutes down the road..LOL!! So long story short, I was hunting for this hotel that we stayed at when I was a little girl. One summer we took a road trip up the Oregon Coast for my mom's birthday. When we got to Rockaway my dad backed into this huge pole shattering the back window of our van. We spent the rest of the trip, a few days, with a garage bag on the back window, it was really loud to say the least. We always joke about that pole and I really wanted to get a picture by it, but I think the hotel may have been torn down, oh well it is a great memory!
We really wanted to stop at the Three Graces and go exploring, but the tide was up! This is right before Bar View Jetty, and is just as much fun as Haystack Rock. If you ever get a chance to go down this way this is a must stop...just have time the tide right!
Right down the road is Ghirabaldi and the kids wanted to see all the boats. We even considered renting a boat to go crabbing, but we decided that Grant would probably end up in the ocean. All weekend we kept hearing stories about how great the crabbing was and we really wanted to, but it would have been way too much work...two more years and Grant will do just fine!
Last stop Oceanview....this is west of Tillamook along the coast line, and it is a perfect little beach for families! There were a lot of people surfing too! As you can see the clouds were a little low when we got there, but in no time the sun came out and it was absolutely perfect!

At the base of the cliffs at the end of the beach there is a tunnel to the other side...kids were very excited to the see the other side!
Grant kept sneaking into our couple picture, good thing he is so darn cute!
As the afternoon progressed the boys actually started to play together and they actually had fun!! I asked Jaxson to put his arm around Grant, and he did this. I was cracking up because we have a "no touching" rule that has become necessary this summer. When the slightest tap can quickly turn into all out wrestling match it is imperative to enforce such rules!! Jaxson, being his literal self was quick to remember that he is not supposed to touch :-))

The boys decided to scare their sleeping daddy! This was so funny!! They were covered in seaweed, but most of it feel off by the time they made it up to where we were sitting!
This is also a great place to see hang gliders. This is one of many that we saw landing on the beach!

A potentially bad weekend turned into a fantastic family weekend, one that Nick, Jaxson and I will surely remember for a long time!!
On a side note: I know you are probably thinking, sooo many pictures!!! Well if you are going to follow my blog I must prepare you for the amount of pictures! I love taking them, especially of my my kids! Ok that is my disclaimer.
